This coat is a culmination of multiple points of research, reference, and inspiration. Upon digging through survey photos of loggers in the PNW and American Midwest, Wythe came across one in particular that featured a logger wearing a weathered and worn peacoat. You could tell this thing had carried him through multiple winters and was one of, if not, his only coat. And that's their favorite kind of inspiration; clothes that have been not only well-loved, but lived in, relied upon, and beaten to death.
Rather than trying to find some roundabout way to recreate this amazingly-weathered vintage cloth, they took their curiosity to the Casentino Valley in Italy, where they've been making their signature cloth since the 14th century. This fabric had similar characteristics to the photo they fell in love with, but felt more in-line with fabric developments they've done before.
And rather than trying to recreate his peacoat, they went after early patterns of naval peacoats, and their NYC factory knocked it out of the park. We're ecstatic with this final product.
