1915 501® JEANS

The story of Cone Denim began in 1891, when brothers Moses and Caesar founded
Cone Export & Commission Company. By 1905, they established a mill that would
become renowned for setting the standard for quality denim. Cone Denim’s White
Oak mill, named after a 200-year-old tree on its grounds, continues to do so
more than a century later. Regarded as a stronghold of textile history, White Oak
remains an integral resource for its archives and endless inspiration.
In 1915, Levi Strauss & Co. approached Cone Denim, and a historic agreement was
struck which granted Cone the exclusive right to manufacture Levi’s® proprietary
Shrink-to-Fit™ denim for all Levi’s® 501® Jeans. This gentleman’s agreement, still
in place today, became known as “The Golden Handshake.”
A century later, we are still unearthing archival details about fabrics we’ve
developed throughout our history with Cone Denim. These 1915 501® Jeans
celebrate this history—reproducing the Cone fabric and Levi’s® fit from 1915, and
carrying the secrets of a 100-year partnership within their warp and weft.
